NEWS UPDATE: COMPULSORY INSTALLATION OF EV CHARGING POINTS IN COMMERCIAL PARKING LOTS

PIO Update 22/08/2023

Greetings, EV Enthusiasts!

We're excited to share some important news regarding the advancement of eMobility in Cyprus. The Energy Service, under the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Industry, has announced a significant initiative aimed at enhancing the accessibility and convenience of electric vehicle (EV) charging.

What's Changing?

According to article 9D(2) of the "Regulation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Law of 2006" (Law 142(I)/2006), by January 1st, 2025, all non-residential buildings equipped with more than twenty (20) parking spaces are required to install at least one electric vehicle charging point. This forward-looking measure is designed to support the growing adoption of electric vehicles and contribute to a greener future.

A Step Towards Sustainability

This requirement aligns with our commitment to sustainability and innovation to provide a solid EV charging infrastructure! By fostering the growth of Cyprus' EV charging infrastructure, we're taking significant strides towards reducing our carbon footprint and promoting cleaner transportation options.

Upcoming Compliance Checks

In line with this initiative, the Energy Service plans to conduct targeted compliance checks post-January 1st, 2025. These checks will ensure that the new regulation is being adhered to and will contribute to the seamless transition to more sustainable transportation solutions.

We're excited about the positive impact this change will have on our community and environment. As we move towards a future with cleaner, more efficient transportation, these electric vehicle charging points are a crucial step forward.
